Description of Hoa Thuy Tien Kindergarten

Hoa Thuy Tien kindergarten is relatively new. It was established few years ago in 2002. There are about 300 children in the kindergarten, from the age of 3 – 5 years old, all the children are divided in 11 classes, which include 2 teachers.

The kindergarten is placed under the government, who settle the guidelines for the kindergarten, which has to be followed. But though there are guidelines, the kindergarten works out their own agenda. The government finds a topic, and the kindergarten decides from there, what to do and how to do it. The kindergarten is also under management of National College for education, which the kindergarten is a part of. This college educates teachers and it is placed right beside the kindergarten.

The kindergarten get support and money from the government to different things like for example facilities, the teacher’s salary and basic things like toys. But the rest, which have to be paid, the parents, is in charged of. Like the food for example, the parents, pays. They pay a certain amount per month, which is 20 – 50 $. The parents, also pays some of the teacher’s salary, because there is two different kind of levels of teacher’s. Some Ateacher’s get paid from the government and others get paid from the kindergarten, which means that these teachers get paid, by how much the parents pay to the kindergarten. The parents of the children are middle class and almost all of them are working, many of them in offices.

Some of the kindergartens goals for the children is how they get emotional and social skills, also that they get much knowledge and are healthy.

Other goals for the kindergarten is to get a smaller amount of children in the classes, which is done by cutting down on the amount of children starting in the kindergarten each year. The kindergarten also wants to educate the teacher’s skills, so they get better and get more knowledge. And then health care is important too and how to make the hygiene better. The kindergarten have had students in the kindergarten for 3 years and it is a gold for the kindergarten that it gets more international inputs, which the students are helping with, by working in the kindergarten.

A day in the kindergarten starts at 7 o’clock, where the teachers are cleaning, what they have to clean and the children starts to come. Then morning exercise and after that there is a schedule for the rest of the day, between the schedule is a break, where the children sleeps for two hours. Around 5 o’clock in the afternoon, the children get picked up by their parents (take a look in “faglige elementer” I wrote an example for, how a day is planned).
